Xavier Torrebadella Flix .

Francisco Amorós y Ondeano (1770-1848) is considered to be the founder of physical education in France and Spain. However, in Spain the impact of his gymnastics system in school physical education in the 19th and early 20th century has not been sufficiently studied. To deal with this question we offer a critical review of the existing research and a basic bibliography that contributes to a better analysis of the influence of his work and the process of institutionalisation of physical education in Spain.
